“The months of June and July see the tennis world descend upon the UK for the grass court season. My grass court season involved the AEGON Championships at The Queen’s Club, the AEGON Open in Nottingham, Wimbledon – the biggest and best tournament of them all – and then finally the Hall of Fame Championships which is held in the USA at Newport, Rhode Island. I was teaming up with Eric Butorac from the USA for these events after Jonny Marray and myself agreed to go our separate ways and end our partnership. Eric and I had mixed results with the highlights being a semi final in Nottingham and 2nd round in Wimbledon. In Nottingham we had a match point to reach the final and in Wimbledon we fell to the defending champions, which was a tough draw. Overall the grass court season one I always enjoy and I feel like I finished it with my game in good shape.
This week I am in Atlanta- one of the summer hard court events that run right through to the US Open at the beginning of September. At present I have no set doubles partner, so if anyone at FPG wants to apply for the position then let me know!
Last week I was in Bogota – an interesting place to play tennis. At 8,600ft above sea level (Ben Nevis stands at 4,409ft high) the conditions are very different to normal. The main challenges are due to the thinner air that makes the ball “fly” and much harder to control and also makes it much tougher on the lungs when playing.
This week I am scheduled to play back in the USA in Atlanta alongside Gilles Muller who is from Luxembourg and ranked in the top 50 in singles. I have good memories playing in Atlanta after making it to the final there in 2013 and am also looking forward to teaming up with Gilles. Following Atlanta I will be heading home for some time with family and friends before heading back out to the USA for some events in the immediate lead up to the US Open which is always a highlight on the calendar.”
FPG wish Stephen Gallacher the best of luck at the Masters in Augusta next week.
“This week I have travelled to Israel to compete in the Electra Israel Open – a $125,000 event on the ATP Challenger Tour. The tournament is being held in Raanana, a suburb of Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv is not the easiest place to fly to from Scotland and I eventually got to my hotel at 3AM on Monday morning after 2 roasting hot Turkish Airlines flights via Istanbul – some air con would have been nice! I think the taxi driver from the airport also fancied himself as a Formula 1 driver which wasn’t ideal!
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little apprehensive about travelling to Israel but since arriving I have enjoyed my time here. It has been beautiful sunshine everyday which helps although the traffic on the roads is a nightmare – our bus journey to the venue takes up to 90 mins in rush hour.
With the doubles event starting on Tuesday, we had a day of recovery and practice on Monday. We then won our first round match so play our 2nd round today (Wednesday). Hoping we improve each day and can have a successful run here.”
FPG were proud to have been invited to the Photo-shoot with Stephen Gallacher (2014 Ryder Cup Player) by Iain Weir, Marketing Director of Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd. The occasion was to present Stephen with the highly sought after 35 Year Old Malt Whisky from Glengoyne Distillery. Distilled in the 1970’s this exquisite malt is expected to become a rare collectors’ item with only 500 decanters released for sale globally. FPG, Sponsors of Stephen Gallacher, also have a close relationship with Glengoyne and were delighted when Iain contacted Colin Mitchell (Managing Director) to be part of the presentation ceremony.
Commenting Colin said “We are very much looking forward to following Stephen at the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles. Three weeks after we signed the sponsorship deal with Stephen he won the Dubai Desert Classic and 12 months later we watched under the desert sun while he successfully defended his title. Between these major wins Stephen has come very close to winning more silver wear culminating in his gutsy performance at the Italian Open in August where he came 3rd and sealed his place for the Ryder cup team”.
Stephen Gallacher (FPG sponsored) has achieved his lifetime ambition to be part of the 2014 Ryder cup team to be held at Gleneagles in September 26th-28th. Stephen’s fantastic performance at the Italian open saw him fall one shot short of an automatic Ryder cup place. Under immense pressure he finished 17 under, one behind David Howell.
Stephen’s presence at Gleneagles will ensure the team have even greater home support and hopefully an advantage over their competitors from across the pond.
Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher speaks to BBC Sport after finishing one under at halfway: ”I’m glad to still be in the red numbers. It was a bit trickier today, the wind was a bit up. So I’m delighted with level par. I got away with a few things but that’s just the course, if you get out of position, a bogey is good.
“You’ve got to keep your temperament, your acceptance levels have got to be through the roof, you’ve just got to hit it, accept it and get on with it. It’s a very strategic course. I think everyone at home knows how to play it but it’s just a case of trying to do it.”
FPG sponsored and Kingsfield based golfer, Stephen Gallacher makes his debut at the prestigious US Masters golf tournament starting on April 10th. In the following link, our top ranked Scot, discusses his first experience of the Augusta National course. I’m sure you will join us in wishing Stephen the best of luck on this truly International stage.
FPG are delighted and proud to announce our sponsorship of Colin Fleming the British professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. He is currently ranked number 26 in the world, the British and Scottish number 1 and partners with Ross Hutchins of England.
